Allana-J Joseph is an Associate in the Litigation and Restructuring practice in Conyers’ BVI office. Her practice covers the full spectrum of cross-border commercial litigation spanning insolvency proceedings, shareholder disputes, court ordered restorations for dissolved BVI companies, contentious trusts litigation, as well as emergency interim relief and asset tracing measures including Norwich Pharmacal relief.

Allana-J regularly appears as lead counsel in commercial matters before the High Court, the Commercial Court and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal. Prior to moving to the BVI in 2016, she practised at a leading law firm in Saint Lucia where she specialised in civil and commercial matters with a focus on banking and debt collection, also frequently appearing in both the High Court and the Court of Appeal in that jurisdiction.

Allana-J is a Board Member of the Women’ Offshore Network (“WON”) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), in addition to sitting on the Committee of the BVI Arbitration Group which supports the BVI International Arbitration Centre and alternative dispute resolution in the jurisdiction. She is also a member of INSOL and the Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (“RISA”) BVI.

  • Appearing as lead counsel in a successful application for Norwich Pharmacal relief in aid of foreign proceedings.
  • Appearing as lead counsel in the Court of Appeal in a successful opposition of application to adduce fresh evidence.
  • Advising and appearing alongside a leading KC in a commercial shipping dispute concerning the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 1976 and the BVI Merchant Shipping Act 2003.
  • Appearing alongside UK counsel in a commercial dispute involving unfair prejudice claims and compulsory redemption of shares.
  • Acting for creditors, shareholders and companies in winding-up petitions.
  • Advising and representing private clients on interlocutory relief applications.
  • Drafting legal opinions on company law issues including shareholder rights and remedies.
