Conyers Dill & Pearman has been approved by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission as a registered trade mark agent.
The Trade Marks Act, which came into force on 1 September 2015, was recently amended to permit entities established as general partnerships to register as trade mark agents. Registered trade mark agents are required to have a substantial knowledge of trade mark law and professional competence and we are delighted that Conyers has qualified as a registered trade mark agent.
The new legislation modernises the trade mark system in the British Virgin Islands by allowing the registration of certification and collective marks, introducing mechanisms for priority filings, permitting protection for wellknown marks and reducing the renewal term to 10 years. The new legislation aligns the British Virgin Islands with its obligations under international treaties.
