Following the success of our second Hong Kong webinar series held in January 2021, our third series that took place last week was another massive success. We were pleased to have received such an encouraging response and high levels of engagement, with a recording-breaking number of more than 850 attendees joining our three live sessions. The participants included CEOs, CFOs, general counsels, in-house counsels, investment managers, onshore lawyers, accountants and company secretaries.

This informative series consisted of three sessions, during which our speakers delivered thought-provoking presentations and provided insights on the following high-profile and pressing offshore legal topics:

Session 1: Introduction to Cayman Foundations and LLCs, and their Uses

Partner Peter Ch’ng explained Cayman Foundations and Cayman LLCs along with their history, unique features and how they are different from standard companies/partnerships. He also provided an overview of their potential uses in family wealth planning and private equity, and covered a brief economic substance analysis.

Session 2: Publicly Available Information in Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands 101

This session focused on what information is generally, and not generally accessible to the public in these three jurisdictions. Associate Charissa Ball and Supervisor of Conyers Corporate Services, Kitty Li also further introduced how a Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands corporate service providers assist with accessing information.

Session 3: Latest Updates on Economic Substance Regimes in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands

In this session, Associate Michael Yu provided his legal perspective on the latest developments in economic substance in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands. Supervisor of Conyers Corporate Services, Miranda Ho also shared information on the form filing requirements and offered practical tips on frequently-asked questions.

The conclusion of the live webinars was followed by Q&A sessions in which our speakers interacted with the attendees and answered their questions.
