Conyers is delighted to have hosted the Conyers Inter-School Debate Tournament held on Wednesday 13 March 2024 at Cayman Prep, with sixty high school students from across the Cayman Islands in attendance. In total, the tournament was supported by 150 participants including students, coaches, judges and other volunteers. Students from four schools competed in the Novice and Open Divisions,with the final two teams debating the impromptu resolution “This House resolves that all billionaires are a result of policy failure”.

The final round of the Open debate was judged by the Hon Mr Justice Doyle of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands with members of the Cayman Islands Government and other dignitaries in attendance including Leader of the Opposition Hon Roy McTaggart and Director of Public Prosecutions Simon Davis. Students from Cayman International School, Cayman Prep and High School, Clifton Hunter High School and John Gray High School participated in the debate.

The Conyers Inter-schools Debate Tournament is the only event of its kind in the Cayman Islands and Conyers has been the title sponsor since its inception in 2015. “Conyers is proud to provide this wonderful opportunity for students to develop key abilities, such as public speaking, critical thinking and teamwork, that will serve them well in the future,” said Conyers Partner Cora Miller, who oversees the event. “Congratulations to all of this year’s participants on your hard work and for progressing your debate skills.”
