Students from across the Cayman Islands met at Cayman International School on 25 November 2024 for the 17th Conyers Inter-School Debate Tournament, the largest in the history of this event. 64 students from 8 schools competed on the prepared resolution that “THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT the Cayman Islands should meet all of its own energy needs by 2045” and the final resolution that “THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT military conflict is a larger threat to global human health than global warming.”

Sponsored by Conyers, the Conyers Inter-School Debate is the only debating tournament in the Cayman Islands and is sustained by a large team of volunteer judges from the local legal and business community, along with teachers and coaches, and support from the judiciary, government and legislative leaders. “This is a unique opportunity for students in the Cayman Islands to further develop their critical thinking, teamwork and public speaking” said Conyers Partner Cora Miller, who oversees the event. “Conyers is honored to be the sole sponsor since its inception and we look forward to continuing to support and provide the resources to students across the Cayman Islands.”

Students from Cayman International School, Cayman Prep and High School, Clifton Hunter High School, Grace Christian Academy, Hope Academy, John Gray High School, Layman Scott High School and a group of independently homeschooled students all participated in this year’s debate.
