Conyers advised Manulife on the redomiciliation of its Class E Bermuda insurer, Manulife (International) Limited (“MIL”), from Bermuda to Hong Kong, which represents the first redomiciliation of a Bermuda company and insurer under Hong Kong’s new redomiciliation legislation introduced earlier this year.
The move was effected to centralise MIL’s operations and better align its regulatory framework with the environment in which it principally operates.
Conyers provided comprehensive Bermuda law advice covering corporate, statutory, and regulatory matters, including relevant applications to the Minister of Finance, Registrar of Companies and Bermuda Monetary Authority, and preparing and ensuring Bermuda law deliverables complied with Hong Kong’s exacting redomiciliation requirements.
