Ye Yang’s legal work is primarily focused on litigation and restructuring. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Senior Associate at a leading law firm in Singapore, where he managed a broad range of high-value and complex restructuring and insolvency matters. He has represented a diverse clientele, including insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, and both public and private companies across various industries such as maritime and construction, in contentious and non-contentious matters. His experience in contentious matters includes cases that have culminated in reported judgments issued by the Singapore Courts.

Additionally, he has experience as an in-house legal counsel, having been seconded to a global bank’s Singapore office, where he gained invaluable insights into the finance industry.

Ye Yang is adept at navigating complex, high-stakes legal challenges and is committed to delivering practical and commercially-focused solutions to his clients. Experience

Prior to joining Conyers, Ye Yang has :

  • As lead counsel, successfully opposed an application to set aside a default judgment, as well as the subsequent Registrar’s Appeal before the Singapore High Court.
  • Represented a liquidator in an application before the Singapore High Court to void a mortgage on the grounds of being an undervalued transaction. Successfully resisted the appeal of the High Court’s decision before the Singapore Court of Appeal.
  • Resisted a contentious application before the Singapore High Court to void the dissolution of a company.
  • Represented insolvency practitioners in major insolvency / restructuring matters in Singapore, including:
    • Acting for the interim judicial managers, judicial managers, and liquidators of a group of companies involved in an online trading platform business, which had approximately 160,000 user accounts (i.e. potentially 160,000 creditors) and an average of approximately 2 million trades per month.
    • Representing the judicial managers of a company trading in oil and other commodities with debts of around US$700 million.
    • Acting for the liquidators of a company involved in an illegal pyramid selling structure where nearly S$190 million was swindled from Singapore investors.
  • Represented institutional creditors in various proceedings before the Singapore High Court to enforce outstanding loan obligations.
