Congratulations to Conyers Associates Beverly Cheung and Ryan McConvey, Legal Managers Catherine Wong and Manwa Yip, who have been recognised as “Hong Kong Rising Stars 2023” by Asian Legal Business.
The Hong Kong Rising Stars 2023 features 30 named lawyers in Hong Kong who have demonstrated great potential in the industry. The list celebrates practitioners under the age of 40 who have worked on important deals and cases and have received significant accolades in the form of public recognition and positive comments from clients and colleagues. With 4 named lawyers out of 30 on the list, Conyers has more “rising stars” than any other firm, and it is the only offshore law firm on the list. Other winners include young lawyers from the Magic Circle and Red Circle.
Beverly joined Conyers in 2017 and is an Associate in the Corporate Department. Conyers Partner Paul Lim noted that Beverly “has good client social and management skills, commercial brinksmanship and the ability to work around roadblocks in complex transactional work and to challenge boundaries”. A client also commented that Beverly is “a caring lawyer. She is well aware of our needs and always suggests the most effective and pragmatic legal solutions for us”.
Ryan joined the firm in 2015 and became an Associate in 2017. He has a broad practice which encompasses all aspects of corporate and commercial law with particular focus on M&A, corporate finance and capital market transactions. Ryan was praised for his strong work ethic and quick thinking. Partner and Head of Hong Kong Office Christopher Bickley says Ryan “has the ability to get to the heart of the matter quickly”.
Catherine is a Legal Manager in the Hong Kong office of Conyers and she currently serves as a committee member in Law Society of Hong Kong’s Pro Bono Committee, Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Committee and the Law Week Organising Committee, and have previously served as committee member in Law Society of Hong Kong’s Young Solicitors’ Group. She was praised for being “highly diligent and has a strong commitment to pro bono work”, delivering “legal support to pro bono clients with a high level of professionalism”.
Manwa joined Conyers in 2021 and is a Legal Manger in the Hong Kong office of Conyers. She has experience assisting in a number of cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. A client stated that Manwa is “extremely professional, responsive, and capable of getting quickly into the gist of the issues”.
