Over the course of just three weeks, the Conyers litigation team has obtained judgments for our clients totalling more than a quarter of a billion dollars in two separate BVI shareholder disputes.
In long-running shareholder dispute Lie v Ng, judgment was obtained for the claimant in the sum of US$154 million with an award of quasi interest of US$21 million. Partner Richard Evans and Counsel Alecia Johns acted for Mr. Lie, alongside London King’s Counsel Matthew Hardwick of 3 Verulam Buildings.
Less than three weeks later, judgment was obtained for the claimants in a derivative action between King Bun Limited and Others v. Lau Man Sang, James and Others for equitable compensation in the sum of US$55.7 million (HKD$435 million), with pre-judgment interest of US$41.1 million and an interim payment of costs in the sum of US$495k. Partners Jerry Samuel and Norman Hau, Counsel Alecia Johns and Associate Catherine Wong acted for the claimants, alongside Jern-Fei Ng KC of 7BR Chambers and James Bailey of 7 KBW Chambers.
Both victories are a testament to Conyers’ now renowned status as the premier firm of choice for clients pursuing the highest value and most complex shareholder disputes in the BVI.
