Conyers is delighted to announce that Ms Wong Wai Man Monique is the winner of the Conyers Dill & Pearman Prize in Commercial Law 2018-2019.

Monique recently completed her Master of Laws in Corporate and Financial Law at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently working as Senior Vice President in Telecoms, Media and Technology, Commercial Banking at HSBC. She also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Global Business and Marketing.

“Conyers Hong Kong has a long track record of working with clients in education. Some of our recent work includes the Hong Kong IPO of China Gingko Education Group and Shanghai Gench Education,” said Christopher Bickley, Partner and Head of Conyers’ Hong Kong Office. “We are not only involved in education by working with clients in the sector, we are in fact most proud of supporting students through their education – we believe that education enables one to influence society in a positive way. This annual scholarship is one of the many ways through which our firm supports students and future legal practitioners,” he added. “Monique has demonstrated her talent and dedication to her study. I am proud we are able to recognise her efforts and success.”

“I applied to the HKU LLM program to complete my unfulfilled wish, and chose Corporate and Financial Law as it was the most relevant major to my career,” said Monique. “The program helped me gain fundamental legal knowledge that is helpful in my day-to-day work. Working in a heavily regulated industry, there are a lot of internal guidelines and procedures to follow. I find it much easier to understand the reasons behind the guidelines and regulations with the legal knowledge I have, instead of just blindly following the rules.”

“Outside of Hong Kong, we have put in place a number of scholarship programmes including the Leadership Scholarship Award in Bermuda and Legal Education Awards in both Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. We are constantly amazed by the exceptional talent of applicants, who are driven and enthusiastic about their study. We are pleased to take the financial burden off students’ shoulders so that they can focus on their academic pursuits,” Christopher Bickley added.

The Conyers Dill & Pearman Prize in Commercial Law was established in 2010 by Conyers’ Hong Kong office in conjunction with The University of Hong Kong. The prize is valued at US$5,000 (HK$39,000) and is awarded to the LLM student who displays the best overall performance in the Master of Laws in Corporate and Financial Law programme. The recipient is selected by the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law Board.
